NLL entry draft: Hello, My Name is … Tim Katz

Tim Katz
Some attackmen are big, but not skilled. Some attackmen are skilled but not very big. But there are attackmen out there who are big and skilled and Tim Katz is one of those attackmen. Standing 6-foot-3 and bringing 225 pounds around each pick set for him, Katz has the size to get where he wants no matter the obstacle and once he gets there, he knows how to finish. You don’t lead your team in scoring 3 straight seasons without that, so it speaks well of Katz in that now that his NCAA days are behind him, he’s eager to take his game to the next level and if any National Lacrosse League team is considering Katz, there’s another bonus or two to keep in mind.
The first bonus? Katz, with all that size and skill, is a left-hander. For the indoor game, having capable talent to throw on that side of the floor is a definite bonus for teams as they try to balance the looks they give goalies. The second bonus? Kid is smart. While the business major was leading the the Pioneers to a 4-11 record this past spring, he was carrying a 3.28 grade-point average to earn USILA Academic All-America honors, one of his proudest achievements.
In his 4 years at Sacred Heart, the attackman scored 4 points (3 goals, 1 assist), 37 points (22-15), 28 points (21-7) and 47 points (32-15) to finish with 116 points in his 53 career games. He played in the 2010 North-South game and had 2 goals and 1 assist before the Long Island Lizards of Major League Lacrosse drafted him in the 5th round.
So Katz brings quite the combination to lacrosse. Big and skilled, talented and smart, he’s a Long Island guy who’s not afraid of traffic and knows how to help his team because in all 15 games he played in 2010, he wasn’t whistled for a single penalty. That kept him out of the box and on the field and as any coach at any level will tell ya, it doesn’t matter how much skill you have. If you’re in the box, you can’t help the team.

A few words to describe your game? I’d like to think my game is physical and intelligent, with a good shot.
What role or position can you see yourself playing for an NLL team? I can see myself being an offensive or scoring threat.
What accomplishment in college are you most proud of? I was an academic All-American my senior year. This is my proudest accomplishment because I was able to have success on both the field and in the classroom.
