Getting to know the Mammoth’s youngest Gajic, Alex

Alex Gajic stands 6-foot-4 and 225 pounds. He is the youngest of four star Gajic brothers that have come out of Burnaby Junior ‘A’ Lacrosse behind Milan, Nenad and Ilija. After the jump, read more on why Colorado is excited to have united three of those Gajic brothers in Colorado with last weekend’s big trade.

First, you have to understand the Gajics created a legacy in the B.C. Junior ‘A’ Lacrosse League (BCJALL). Each brother was a leader for the Burnaby Junior Lakers and captured the prized Minto Cup. In ‘04 and ‘05, Nenad and Ilija also respectively won Minto Cup MVPs. READ MORE »


BCJALL: Curt Malawsky to coach Coquitlam

Curt Malawsky has been named the new head coach of the Coquitlam Junior ‘A’ Adanacs. The long-time Adanacs player will replace a surprised Dan Perrault, who guided the team to a 20-1 regular season record and BCJALL title last season.

Curt has also enjoyed prior coaching success in the Junior ‘A’ loop, capturing the Minto Cup as a coach in ’04 and ’05 with the Burnaby Lakers. He stepped down from that role in ’07 to spend more time with his family. READ MORE »


BCJALL: Adanacs Search for Top Talent

The defending BC Junior ‘A’ Lacrosse League (BCJALL) champion Coquitlam Adanacs have announced their tryout dates for 2010, going four weeks in the month of March. With an automatic bid to the Minto Cup next year, the program is looking to have their most competitive camp to date.

A’s General Manager Ken Wood is also lobbying for more trade activity within the BCJALL.

Jordan Sundher to lead Victoria Junior ‘A’ Lacrosse as new Head Coach

Jordan Sundher has been named the new head coach of the Victoria Junior ‘A’ Shamrocks lacrosse club.

The B.C. native spent 10 years coaching Juan de Fuca’s Bantam ‘A’ program before joining the Shamrocks’ Senior ‘A’ coaching staff this season when a hip problem caused him to miss the season as a player. READ MORE »

The Victoria Jr. A Shamrocks have announced that they are seeking a new general manager and head coach after Danny Green, who’s been with the team in both positions over the past three summers, has stepped down from his roles with the club, rejecting an offer from the Shamrocks to continue into 2010.

Green, who led the Shamrocks to a Minto Cup final in ‘08, owned a 43-20-0 regular season record with the club, landing a post-season spot in each of his three seasons at the helm. Victoria was however dumped early in the first round of this year’s post-season, going down 3-1 in their series against the lower seeded New Westminster Salmonbellies. READ MORE »


Jr. A’s gain valuable Minto Cup experience, look forward to hosting in 2010

Led by young stars and vets, the Coquitlam Junior ‘A’ Adanacs had a great season in 2009, winning the B.C. Junior ‘A’ Lacrosse League’s (BCJALL) regular season and playoff title. But the A’s could not match-up against the Eastern division’s top squads and that will lead change in Coquitlam, home of the next Minto Cup championships.

“To say 2009 was a great year is really an understatement,” offered Coquitlam GM Ken Wood. “They came together very quickly, got out of the gate fast and just kept building. I am exceptionally proud of the players and coaches to battle hard through out the playoffs. We met some very good competition that pushed us hard… nothing in the playoffs came easy.” READ MORE »


Coquitlam Adanacs- off to the minto and fighting for their lives

In less than twenty-four hours the Coquitlam Adanacs will head off to Brampton, Ontario for the Canadian National Junior Lacrosse Championships – their first visit to this show in over twenty years. They are packing some pretty heavy heat – the best rookie in the country, who also happens to be the league’s top scorer (107 pts) and league MVP- Robert Church; the goalie of the year- Dan Lewis; the league’s most sportsman like player and play-off MVP- Trevor Moore; the league’s most inspirational player- Brandon Turner; and several league all-stars (Lewis, Church, Moore and former Six Nations Arrow Corbyn Tao) Not to mention the twenty other weapons in the arsenal. Coquitlam is headed East, led by Aged-up Rooks and Junior ‘A’ Vets

The Coquitlam Adanacs earned the right to advance to the Minto Cup championship with a 4-2 series win over the New Westminster Salmonbellies last weekend. The A’s clinched the series with a Game 6 win, 6-5. It was the ‘Bellies first-loss on their home floor this post-season.

“The season was an amazing experience,” added Robert Church, who had a league-best 107-point regular season. “Being aged up was nice and it gave me a taste of how box lax is going to be for the next three years.”

“As for the hardware, the only one we want is the Minto Cup which we haven’t achieved yet,” said Church, when asked about his new titles which include BCJALL ‘09 Rookie of the Year and League MVP. READ MORE »

The British Columbia Junior A Lacrosse League has released their award winners for the ‘09 regular season, Coquitlam’s Robert Church landing both the province’s rookie of the year nod and even more impressively MVP honours as well.

Church led BC in scoring during his first full season of Jr. A lacrosse, his 107 points just enough to edge out teammate and post-season MVP, Trevor Moore (102).

It was the first time since ‘74, and maybe the only ever time, that a rookie led BC in scoring, the legendary Kevin Alexander doing the same with 159 points playing with Victoria in his first season of junior ball. READ MORE »


A New Champ Will Be Crowned This Weekend

There was a point in last night’s BC Jr. A final game 5, where you thought the New Westminster Salmonbellies were going to walk into the Palace on Poirier and steal a victory from the Coquitlam Adanacs. Then Robert Church scored a power play goal half way through the second to tie the score and send then A’s on a four goal outburst over the next five minutes to put the game away. Sure at that point it only made the score 2-2 but in the tightest defensive game of the series it was more than enough. READ MORE »
