Team Canada tryouts taking place this weekend in Ontario/Buffalo

Lest we forget, this coming weekend is a pretty huge one all over the place, with college fallball events like the Colleluori Classic, Navy Fall Classic and Catamount Classic going on in the states. Another big event is Team Canada’s tryout for the world field lacrosse championship next summer in Manchester, England. Most of the tryouts are in Toronto, but there will also be a scrimmage vs. 2009 NCAA Tournament team Notre Dame in Buffalo on Sunday – which will be covered over on InsideLacrosse.com.

As part of the build-up for the weekend, here’s a release from the Team Canada folks…Enjoy! READ MORE »

Lacrosse Links: Looking at the MLL’s recent run of Can-Am success

It’s practically Canada day over on InsideLacrosse.com, as IL’s staff takes a long look at just how the Canadian/American hybrid style of field lacrosse has become the new model of success at the professional field level, indicated by Toronto and Rochester’s championships in the last two seasons. First, the staff takes a look at the reasons why this model has been successful. Then Quint discusses five things we learned this summer in the MLL (Video), and we also updated our MLL Finals video roundup with the Nationals’ celebration footage from the field on Sunday (Video). Canadian NCAA Lacrosse Players Check-In: March 16

The week ending March 15th, 2008 has been another good one for Canadian and Iroquois players playing in the NCAA Div I. While many “story lines” have evolved over the past week, arguably the most impressive part of this week’s story has been the huge numbers being put up by Canadian freshman. This class will be outshone in the short-term by the likes of Delgarno, Greer, Small, Billings and Hopcroft but over the next four years several of these kids (with names like Genik, Bergman, Neufeld, Bender, Acton, Matthews, Campbell, and Belton) could become the new “poster” boys for Canadian Lacrosse. Here’s a quick snap shot of our boys performances. READ MORE »

Canadian Players in NCAA Lacrosse Check-In: March 9

Jason Donville, a coach with the Edge Ontario program and one of the folks responsible for bringing an MLL franchise to Toronto for 2009, has been keeping track of the Canadian presence in the field game so far this season, and has filed this dispatch on how our friends from up north are doing thus far in ‘09.

Dear Canadian Field Lacrosse Fans,

Our players down south have had another good week with several notable highlights. Here are my thoughts in no particular order. Note that I have attached the spreadsheet which compiles all of the stats I will mention below. READ MORE »

Greywolves giving it a great run

Not that lacrosse needs help in pointing out any of the tons of reasons it’s so cool, but I’m gonna do it anyway: It’s year-round!

No doubt about it, when it’s not National Lacrosse League season, it’s Major League Lacrosse season. Or, it can be the high school season or the college season. And this time of year, we’ve also got the Can-Am game workin’ and lemme tell ya, that stuff’s a blast. I’ve been able to get a couple of Rochester Greywolves games this season already. The Greywolves are an expansion team, sorta. They’re actually a reincarnation of a team that played back in the 1930s and in various forms through the years, but last year, a fella by the name of Craig Marvin got the notion to put the Greywolves back on the floor and he’s done a fantastic job. With help from Ansley Jemison, Marvin’s put together a solid club made up of mostly local guys who have crafted a very respectable 5-7 record and have six games left this season.

Just two of those are home games though, so if you’re in the Rochester, N.Y., area and haven’t been out to see game yet, make haste and get thee there! The club plays at Genesee Valley and tonight, the Newton Golden Eagles are in town. You won’t be disappointed. Whether the Greywolves win or lose, you’ll see a game that gives you that grassroots feeling for the game. Tickets are affordable, the grub at the food stand is salty and greasy, the goalies are monsters and the overall passion for the game is top-notch.
