Playoff Performer of the Year: Orangeville Northmen’s Adam Jones

For the second straight year, NLL Insider has named the Orangeville Northmen’s Adam Jones our Jr. A Playoff Performer of the Year, Jones also recently named ’09’s Junior of the Year after another stellar season playing for Canada’s top junior club.

Jones, who was also named the Minto Cup’s most outstanding player, won his second career national Jr. A title last night, leading the tournament in scoring with 28-points, the second highest tourney point total since the Minto changed formats in ‘03 (round robin & best of three final). NLL Insider ‘09 Junior of the Year Awards, Plus All-Canadian Teams

NLL Insider is proud to announce our second annual National Junior of the Year Awards, along with our All-Canadian First and Second Teams.

Selections were made based on ‘09 regular season performances, hardware handed out to this year’s top player, defender, goalie, rookie and coach, playing or coaching in BC, Alberta or Ontario.

Last year’s winners included Cody Jamieson (player), Curtis Manning (defender), Nick Rose (goalie), Cody Bremner (rookie) and Matt Sawyer (coach).

JOTY Award Winners To Be Announced on Saturday August 29th

NLL Insider will be announcing our Junior of the Year award winners, crowning the Jr. A loop’s top player, defender, goalie, rookie and coach of the year this coming Saturday, just inside the start of the Minto Cup’s best of three championship series, a final the Orangeville Northmen have already locked up a spot in.

The JOTY’s first began last year, Cody Jamieson (player), Curtis Manning (defender), Nick Rose (goalie), Cody Bremner (rookie) and Matt Sawyer (coach) taking our inaugural hardware. NLL Insider will also be releasing our All-Canadian First and Second Teams on Saturday as well.

Rookie Robert Church lands major BC hardware, plus the rest of the winners

The British Columbia Junior A Lacrosse League has released their award winners for the ‘09 regular season, Coquitlam’s Robert Church landing both the province’s rookie of the year nod and even more impressively MVP honours as well.

Church led BC in scoring during his first full season of Jr. A lacrosse, his 107 points just enough to edge out teammate and post-season MVP, Trevor Moore (102).

It was the first time since ‘74, and maybe the only ever time, that a rookie led BC in scoring, the legendary Kevin Alexander doing the same with 159 points playing with Victoria in his first season of junior ball. READ MORE »

The Onatario Lacrosse Association’s Jr. A loop has released it’s award winners for 2009’s regular season, with Six Nations Arrows 16-year old super stud, Randy Staats, and Orangeville Northmen game-changer, Adam Jones, leading the pack with MVP and Most Outstanding player nods.

With the regular season behind us and some phenomenal lacrosse played this summer, NLL Insider is proud to announce our list of nominees for our annual Junior Player of the Year Awards, which includes national nods to the year’s best overall player, defender, goalie, rookie and head coach.

NLL Insider based its decision strictly on play from ‘09, only including ball players that played a minimum two-thirds of their team’s season (do the math before sending us emails). Insider’s decisions were based on garnering opinions and views via constant interaction with players, coaches, management, fellow media and of course our own views of Jr. A seasons in BC, Alberta and Ontario this year. This week we’re gonna take a quick peek at some of this summer’s top Jr. A defenders and some of the names that could find themselves as finalists for our JOTY year-end hardware.

Remember, we’re selecting guys on what they’ve done this summer, so although there are some pretty high profile names out there, many are just starting to roll into camp and haven’t had as big an impact on the game from start-to-(almost) finish like the guys after the jump have.

This week in the Junior of the Year watch, we’re gonna focus on ten early favourites for national MVP honours that have impressed so far this summer.

The “big names” might not be on here yet though. Guys like Curtis Dickson, Mark Matthews and Michael Pires, who are still playing a bit of catch-up after returning a little late while they finished up at school, are definitely worthy of praise, but as we mentioned before, the JOTY’s factor in this year, and this year only.

In our first look at some of the studs that will be getting serious consideration for our 2nd Annual Junior of the Year nods, today we’ll look at the goaltenders that have impressed so far in Ontario, BC and Alberta.

Last summer, Orangeville’s Nick Rose was named our keeper of the year, and was also a finalist for our highest honour, the actual JOTY title.
