NLL Girl of the Week champ: Amanda

Another contest, another winner. With more than 5,700 votes cast, our newest National Lacrosse League Girl of the Week contest winner is Amanda of the Buffalo Bandettes. Thanks one and all for the votes cast. And as for Amanda’s 3,882-1,905 win over Rochester’s Corina, it’s just one more bragging right for Buffalo over Rochester. We’re not trying to stoke that fire, as if it really needs it, but part of any healthy rivalry is notching a W and Buffalo fan has another notch in the belt when it comes to rubbing it in Rochester’s face. Is Buffalo going to have a victory parade for Amanda? Probably not, but Bandit fan always has this card to play. READ MORE »

NLL Girl of the Week off-season title match: It’s Corina vs. Amanda

It just doesn’t get much better than this. It’s a perfect storm of sorts, borrowing from a classic rivalry setting to whet your appetite for the upcoming National Lacrosse League season, specifically for you clowns in Rochester and Buffalo. OK, maybe that’s a bit of a stretch as far as getting you ready for the season, but when it comes to just about anything Buffalo vs. Rochester, it’s always about winning. So even if this is “only” an off-season title for the NLL Girl of the Week contest, finalist Amanda from Buffalo and Corina from Rochester should bring out the best from both cities. READ MORE »

NLL Girl of the Week: It’s Corina vs. Leslie

We know Corina and Leslie are dancers for National Lacrosse League teams. That’s the whole point of this story. But if you look beyond the dance moves and the skimpy outfits, you soon realize there’s more. Much, much more. Leslie’s down with dental hygiene. Corina’s down with coordinating interiors. What’s that got to do with dancing? Not much, really. It’s just our effort to help ya’ll realize that as much as we love these dancers, there’s much more to them than meets the eye. So before we get to gawkin’ at the pictures after the jump, let’s get to know these semifinal contestants. READ MORE »

NLL Girl of the Week: It’s Amanda vs. Jennifer

East Coast vs. West Coast, kinda sorta. Amanda comes to us from the Buffalo Bandits and Jennifer comes to us from the Stealth, kinda. Jennifer was part of the San Jose Stealth dance team before the franchise moved its operations to Everett, Wash., so her days with the Stealth team are done. But she beat still was featured as a National Lacrosse League Girl of the Week back in June, so she just beat the deadline to be a part of this contest. Kinda like a buzzer-beating shot. That said, let’s learn a bit more about Jennifer and Amanda. READ MORE »

NLL Girl of the Week: Amanda

If we do enough of these National Lacrosse League Girl of the Week contests, it’s bound to happen, right? You know what I mean. If we had a nickel for every NLL dancer who said “I’ve been dancing since the age of 3,” we’d be, well, rich. But leave it to Buffalo to break from the norm because this week’s Girl of the Week, Amanda, says she’s never taken a formal dance class before she joined the Bandettes two seasons ago. Impressive, to say the least. But that’s where we find ourselves this week, getting to know a little more about Amanda. READ MORE »

NLL Girl of the Week: Jennifer

The Stealth may have moved from San Jose to Everett, Wash., but the team’s not going out without making some more noise. At least not the dance team. That’s where Jennifer fits in, a dancer whose debut for the Bombshells in 2009 was her first, and last. That didn’t keep her from being named an NLL Girl of the Week by the National Lacrosse League and as such, we’re giving her some proper props in our Girl of the Week contest. So Jennifer may be done dancing for the Stealth, but that doesn’t mean she can’t have a little fun on her way out. READ MORE »

NLL Girl of the Week: Corina

It’s that time of week, fans, to take a look at the latest National Lacrosse League Girl of the Week. And this week, it’s Corina of the Rochester Knightingales.  Now as we explained last week, this is a bit of a bonus installment of this popular ongoing series and even though Corina was named the NLL’s Girl of the Week back in May of this year, we held on for a bit to start this offseason tournament because we know you were all busy following OLA and WLA ball along with all the junior ball. So now that all the ball is done for the time being, it’s time to get back to this with a vengeance. READ MORE »

NLL Girl of the Week bonus season

It might be the offseason for lacrosse and the National Lacrosse League, but do we ever take time off from recognizing the contributions of NLL dancers? Sure, there are no games right now and training camps are still a couple of months away, but we’re going to take advantage of this downtime to revisit a popular feature with our NLL Girls of the Week contest. The league named five NLL dancers during the summer so we’ve set up a sort of min-tournament to get us through until the big season starts. First matchup? It’s Karen of the Boston Blazers and Leslie of the Colorado Mammoth. READ MORE »

The Way We Play: A Lacrosse Message from former CUFLA Commish Gord Watt

Team Canada 2006
Team Canada 2006
By Gord Watt

Did you hear it? Did you hear the collective chest pounding coming from the lacrosse fans north of the border on a late August afternoon when Shawn Williams scored the winning goal and the upstart Toronto Nationals took the Major League Lacrosse championship in Annapolis, Maryland? Okay, it wasn’t a major sports extravaganza. It wasn’t even a sellout, but the Nationals’ victory could mark a significant change in, “How Things Will Be Done” in the lacrosse world.

NLL dance team auditions upcoming

Yeah, yeah, yeah. We all get up and dance in our seats at some point during a National Lacrosse League games but not all of us are rockin’ the skin tight suits and doing the high leg kicks. And for that, we are thankful. Very thankful. Be that as it may, there are a bunch of audition dates coming up for the real dance teams that come out and cheer on the boys as they duke it out. From Rochester to Calgary, from Colorado to Minnesota, a bunch of squads are set for auditions and if you think you can cut it, turn the page to get the information you need to be a part of these squads.
