A National Lacrosse League (NLL) player rockets a back-hand shot top corner and… pumps his fist. But do you want more? Especially with this week’s big news that nine NLL games will be featured on TSN2, should NLL players put a little more creativity and emphasis into their goal celebrations?

Respect has to go to NLL ballers: They are the best players in the world and they battle hard every shift. Most don’t bother to brag and ignore the over-the-top celebrations, but should they help put on more of a show? READ MORE »

Who has the more dominant NLL Division?

For the seventh consecutive season, the National Lacrosse League (NLL) will have an Eastern and Western Division champion meet in the final. Which Division is stronger? And does the West have an unfair advantage?

In 2008, the issue of uneven Divisions was prominently raised as the East sported more teams and better regular-season records than the West. Some fans were calling the format unfair, while the league and governors stood by the divisional breakdown. READ MORE »

How many goals do you want to see in an NLL game?

The National Lacrosse League (NLL) was extremely competitive last season. Each week it was hard to predict a winner, and with the league decreasing one franchise to 11 for the up-coming 2010 NLL season, parity should continue with every team having a legitimate shot at the Cup.

But how will one less team in the league impact offensive output? READ MORE »

What will be the toughest barn to steal a W in?

These doors have been dishing out a lot of W's over the past five years, Toronto's ACC.
These doors have been dishing out a lot of W's over the past five years, Toronto's ACC.

It wasn’t all that many years ago that pulling a W outta the Air Canada Center (Maple Leaf Gardens before that) in Toronto was one of the hardest things to do, regular season or playoffs, in the National Lacrosse League.

A win in Toronto over five years ago, and some left 40 Bay Street believing anything was possible. It truly was that valued and special.

Nowadays though, if all you leave the ACC with is a win in the standings, most feel pretty gypped (no offense to any gypsies reading today’s post) and are probably lookin’ for some free grub while passing by the Rock locker room in order to leave semi-satisfied. READ MORE »

NLL: How are the Titans taking to Orlando?

The New York Titans were one of the league’s best on-field success stories, finding their way to the 2009 championship game in only their third season.

With the franchise’s relocation to Orlando, the Titans are now hoping off-field success will follow.

“The early feedback has been very positive,” says Steve Donner, president of the Titans. “Our expenses to operate the team are considerably less and the rent is much more reasonable (in comparison to New York). READ MORE »

With all the records that have either been on the ropes or KO’d over the past couple seasons, odd that few have mentioned how close Buffalo Bandits backstop Kenny Montour has been to Bob Watson‘ single season goals-against-average record, which Watson set with a thin 8.89 GAA during the Toronto Rock’s ‘01 season.

Montour, last year’s goalie of the year, was the first starter since Steve Dietrich in ‘06 to end the year with a sub-10.00 GAA, his 9.57 GAA in ‘09 the second best ever behind Whipper’s hard to match mark.

Can Montour catch Watson’s legendary mark this upcoming season? READ MORE »

Will the National Lacrosse League (NLL) draw fans in Washington?

Former league commissioner Jim Jennings thinks so. Earlier this month Jennings blogged a prediction that the Stealth would double the attendance they had in San Jose, and that Orlando would significantly improve its attendance figures.

More on the current state in Washington after the jump.  READ MORE »

Who’ll be the next breakout pro goalie?

It’s far and away the toughest spot to land a gig in the National Lacrosse League… an everyday keeper.

Few get drafted, even fewer find a third string spot let alone backup role over their short NLL careers, the same faces making up the goalie landscape in the pro game from season-to-season for the past almost ten years.

Between junior aged keepers needing extra time to adapt to the league’s larger cages and equally few spots in the Sr. A game in the summer to play some pro caliber ball, the jump to the NLL has only been made by a small handful over the past several seasons. READ MORE »

Will the National Lacrosse League (NLL) expand beyond North America?

October 23-24, the National Lacrosse League (NLL) will feature its indoor lacrosse game down under in Melbourne, Australia, with an ‘NLL All-Star Series’ featuring some of the game’s best professional lacrosse players.

“This series demonstrates the international growth of lacrosse and the NLL,” offered league Commissioner George Daniel, when the league officially made the announcement in June. “We are excited about bringing the world’s best players to Australia.”  READ MORE »

Who’ll keep scoring?

We kinda fudged things up when trying to track Steve Toll’s consecutive games played streak last year (sorry again about that Steve), but thought we’d take a run at another consecutive record, at least part of the way.

Since 2005 (and a bit of ‘04 if the stats spilled into that season), what do you think is the longest consecutive goals scored streak in the league? AKA, how many consecutive games has a pro gone without a goose egg under the G column on gameday (not including playoffs)?

With 16-game regular seasons, how many straight games do you think someone was able to stretch that number? Get ready to he surprised as hell after the jump, not cuz of who did it, but because of how many games this guy kept going strong. READ MORE »
