Which NLL player sports the best mustache?

Trends come and go all around us and the National Lacrosse League is no exception. Hey, the fellas may play in a box, but that doesn’t mean they live under a rock. Remember Tom Ryan and those dreads poppin’ out from under his lid? Remember all the spandex the boys were sportin’ back in the mid 1990s? Cool, all of ‘em. But there’s a newer sort of trend and while it isn’t quite sweeping the league by storm, it does seem to be catching on with a few of the fellas and it led us to this question: Which NLL baller sports the best mustache? The Knighthawks Krew will be on hand at the new Woody’s on Monroe Ave. in Rochester today after 5:30 p.m. to sell tickets for the Jan. 16 game in Buffalo and the Jan. 23 game in Toronto. It’s a chance for fans to buy the tickets before the team’s Jan. 9 opener and will ensure fans making the trip seats with other Knighthawks fans. ‘Tis the season, even for lacrosse players

Sure, they fight and fuss and throw down and say words we can’t print here. But that doesn’t mean National Lacrosse League players are without heart. And what better time than the Christmas season to show it? In Calgary, we have Tracey Kelusky and teammates collecting toys for the Salvation Army. In Rochester, Joe Walters is ringing Salvation Army bells and in Boston, Gary Bining (pictured) helped children at Boston’s Home for Little Wanderers decorate gingerbread houses for auction. Teams and players around the league are taking the time to lend a hand this holiday season, so props to all and may it inspire each of us to do the same.

‘Happiness is playing for the Mann Cup’

Now we don’t normally pimp stuff here at NLLInsider.com, but this eBay auction we found earlier today was too good to pass up. Yeah, you’re reading that t-shirt right. It says in big, bold letters: Happiness is playing for the Mann Cup. Now, to be sure, it’s not exactly the prettiest shirt we’ve ever seen and odds are pretty good it’s not official swag, but we’re pretty confident it’s one of a kind and its way cool. Kind of a vintage look, ya know? So go ahead, at least take a look. And if ya bid, just be sure to read the fine print, and maybe even bid on an iron while you’re at it. And no, we have no idea how this shirt came to auction all the way from Bangkok, Thailand, but the picture of the tag shows clearly that it was made in Canada.

Vinitage photo project brings lacrosse history to life

We’re all lacrosse nuts ’round these parts, but some of us are history nuts too and that’s why it’s so cool to give ya’ll a heads-up about this project that Tim Prothero is working on. Tim’s got The Vintage LaX Project up on-line at his Flickr account and if you head on over to view these photos, make sure you’ve got some time. There are a bunch. “If you played lacrosse between 1968 and 1985 in the OLA or pros … you may find yourself, no matter what level you played,” Prothero told me in an e-mail. It’s a work of beauty and includes great photos like this one of Adam Oates, who obviously went on to NHL stardom. But there’s more. Plenty more. READ MORE »

Chicago Cloverz are your Fann Cup champs

Chicago may not have the Shamrox anymore, but the Cloverz know how to represent our game in the Midwest. The Cloverz hosted the 2009 edition of the Fann Cup and won it all last weekend. The Cloverz defeated the Toronto Roadies 6-5 in the championship game and, according to organizers, it’s just the third time in the eight-year history of the event that the host team won the Cup. “This year’s tournament showed what the Fann Cup is all about,” tournament president Ray Kincaid said. “Lots of friends, lots of lacrosse, and lots of fun.” Read on for details, and a picture of the winners.
