Mann Cup: Lacrosse Tickets Now On Sale!

The New Westminster Salmonbellies are promoting the team’s ‘Drive for 25‘ Mann Cup national titles. Tickets go on sale today at Queen’s Park Arena Office which is open weekdays 10:00am to 3:00pm PST. The New Westminster Salmonbellies captured their second-straight Western Lacrosse Association (WLA) title last week, and will now host the Mann Cup championships at Queen’s Park Arena, September 4-12, 2009. The ‘Bellies await the winner of the Eastern Major Series League (MSL) final between Brampton and Peterborough, a Best-of-7 series headed to a Game 6.

In less than twenty-four hours the Coquitlam Adanacs will head off to Brampton, Ontario for the Canadian National Junior Lacrosse Championships – their first visit to this show in over twenty years. They are packing some pretty heavy heat – the best rookie in the country, who also happens to be the league’s top scorer (107 pts) and league MVP- Robert Church; the goalie of the year- Dan Lewis; the league’s most sportsman like player and play-off MVP- Trevor Moore; the league’s most inspirational player- Brandon Turner; and several league all-stars (Lewis, Church, Moore and former Six Nations Arrow Corbyn Tao) Not to mention the twenty other weapons in the arsenal. WLA: New Westminster vs Coquitlam, WLA ‘09 Final Preview

The New Westminster Salmonbellies and Coquitlam Adanacs will meet in the Western Lacrosse Association (WLA) final for the third consecutive year. The ‘Bellies swept the Langley Thunder to advance. Coquitlam surprised some by defeating the top-ranked Victoria Shamrocks with a 4-1 series win.

“I expected to win but thought the series might go longer,” added Coquitlam GM Les Wingrove. “We beat a good (Victoria) team.”

“This is a group of guys that really believe in each other,” added Wingrove. “There is a quiet confidence in the room. They are looking forward to this series (against New West).” READ MORE »


WLA: Coquitlam and New Westminster, one win away from West Final

The Coquitlam Adanacs came out flying in the semis to take a 2-0 series lead over the top-ranked Victoria Shamrocks, before the green and white responded with a key win at home. Game 4 went to the Adanacs, who now hold a comfortable 3-1 series lead.

In the other semis, the defending WLA champion New Westminster Salmonbellies hold a commanding 3-0 series lead over the young Langley Thunder. New West has outscored Langley 41 to 19 through the first three playoff games. READ MORE »


WLA: New Westminster Salmonbellies vs Langley Thunder, ‘09 Playoff Preview

Victoria and Coquitlam opened up the 2009 Western Lacrosse Association (WLA) playoffs with a bang last night, as the A’s threw down a surprise 17-15 win in Victoria. With the game tied at 15-15 and less than 30 seconds left, veteran Curt Malawsky (NLL Calgary) scored the game-winner, short-handed on a controversial turn-over call. The two teams resume action on Thursday, as their best-of-seven series goes every other night: VIC vs COQ Preview.

The West’s other big semi-final match should be just as intense. It starts up tonight and features the defending WLA champion New Westminster Salmonbellies against the young Langley Thunder. During three regular season meetings, only three goals separated the clubs.

The Western Lacrosse Association (WLA) playoff schedule starts up this week with the Victoria Shamrocks matched-up against the Coquitlam Adanacs and the New West Salmonbellies drawing the Langley Thunder in best-of-seven playoff series.

Note the Eastern Major Series League (MSL) also kick off their semi-final series tonight; The winner of the East and West will meet in B.C. this year for the Mann Cup championships.

Four of the seven WLA teams made the post-season, all with a legitimate shot of winning the WLA title and hosting the Mann Cup championships in September. WLA: Playoff Teams Set, plus the links

The Western Lacrosse Association (WLA) has been unpredictable this season and it may take the final week of the regular season to decide the playoff seedings. But the playoff bound teams are set.

The New Westminster Salmonbellies (11-3-2) convincingly defeated the Victoria Shamrocks (12-3) last week to pull into a first-place tie. The Langley Thunder (9-5-1) sit comfortably in third and the Coquitlam Adanacs (8-8) will sneak into the playoffs despite a 1-6 record in their last seven games.

Maple Ridge (7-10), Nanaimo (3-10-2) and Burnaby (2-13-1) are out. READ MORE »
